1. a thin board, thicker along one edge than along the other; weatherboard. Clapboards are used to cover the outer walls of wooden buildings. Each board is made to overlap the one below it somewhat like a shingle but is much longer.
2. British. (formerly) a small size of split oak, used for barrel staves and wainscoting.
